Friction Control
Best solutions from a single provider
Efficient Lubrication
The increase in the number of extended-reach, high-angle and deep-water complex wells brings the necessity of controlling the high friction values which is one of the major problems that need to be addressed. Lubricants are often added to drilling, completion and workover uids to reduce the coecient of friction between tubular equipment or tubular and wellbore wall. They are also protective of the bit bearing surfaces under high load conditions by their lm-forming property.
The selection of the lubricant for water-based drilling uid, reservoir drilling uid and clear brine completion uids is primarily driven by their performance criteria and environmental requirements. The performance criteria are decrease in coecient of friction and torque & drag, synergy with uid types and other additives, less formation & environmental damage. The environmental criteria include toxicity, biodegradability and human health-related problems. The application of correct chemistry has the most signicant impact on the performance of lubricants, environmental-related problems, and consequently on the success during operations.
CS OILFIELD provides the highest performance and lowest environmental impact solutions for the exploration of oil and gas resources in onshore & oshore environments to improve operational excellence and protect the environment. Our solutions are tailored to be compatible with nearly all kinds of uid chemistries under various hole conditions which are proven in different parts of the world without causing any damage to marine and terrestrial resources.
LUBE FCX
LUB FCX is readily biodegradable and nontoxic with its hydrocarbon chain of natural oils & fats. It is developed to enhance drilling rates when drilling with water-based muds and reduces torque and drag in many cases between 30% and 50%. As a result of its composition, it eliminates bit balling related problem and vastly reduces the risk of dierential sticking.
The use of this lubricant does not aect rheology, nor ltration behavior nor any other mud properties. In some cases, its addition may even improve the API and HPHT ltration properties.
Extensive laboratory tests have shown that the addition of LUB FCX reduces the friction factor of water-based muds to values as low as those of oil or synthetic-based muds. These lab results were conrmed in many eld tests, even the small additions of FCX (1% to 3% by volume) enabled to drill highly tortuous wells.
LUB FCX is also eective in high-density formulations. An addition of 3%, results in a remarkably lower torque. At temperatures of up to 160°C, LUBE FCX remains effective and stable.
LUBE FCX SALT
LUBE FCX SALT has almost the same properties as LUB FCX, whereas it is readily dispersible in any solids-free drill-in uid or brine. It forms milky dispersions in the brines. After initial mixing, the lubricant will not separate into an oily layer on top of the mud. If, however a brine solution with lubricant must be stored prior to its use, it is recommended to keep the entire lubricant brine solution under gentle agitation. This new lubricant shows no “greasing” problems and also remains into solution without “phasing out” which is important when the lubricant-brines solution is in place downhole without circulation.
LUBE FC SPOT
LUBE FC SPOT is a specially designed composition of polyalphaolen (PAO), emulsiers, activators and initiators. It has the same friction factor reduction capability with Synthetic Based Mud Base Oil and contains no aromatic content. Provides no eect on rheological properties and fully eective in high weight mud systems. According to eld results, it decreases the coecient of friction by 79.6% in freshwater, 75.7% in Xanthan gum brine slurry and 57.3% in NaCl brine systems.
